This blog is quintessentially Santa Barbara. Today, January 4, I composted in my tank top. When I compost I feel like I am returning something to the soil I borrowed for a minute. Almost unbelievably satisfying, though obviously not an equal exchange. The soil around my house is clay, almost devoid of recent organic matter. I feel like Johnny Appleseed when I carry out a bucket to a live compost pile.
The weather is pushing 70, hence the tank top. Together, these two facts remind me of why I live in Santa Barbara.
